We are excited to see some of our plans come to fruition whilst others are nearing completion.
The Friends of Harrow Weald believe that parks make the very best community centres and, with this in mind, we would like to extend an invitation to others to come and join us in the park.
EVENTS:
We are delighted to announce that the Royal Horticultural Society have chosen us to run a selection of events which everyone is welcome to join. Events are completely free. We have begun with online meetings which provide an opportunity for the local community to pose their questions to the gardening specialists and to have an interactive discussion to help with any gardening problems that they may have. Whether you need to know what planting is best for a shady area, how to deal with caterpillar infestations, and much more, the RHS team are there to offer their expertise. Chris Young, the RHS Community Outreach Adviser for London, will also be demonstrating how to grow edible plants indoors from seed at the next RHS online event on Tuesday 6th May at 6pm. Watch for FREE. For full details https://harrowweald.co.uk/royal-horticultural-society
DURING LOCKDOWN
Throughout the restrictions the Friends have hosted numerous quiz and bingo nights. These have proved to be very popular and are held online using Zoom. We are pleased to announce that the BINGO events take place every other Saturday 7pm. Entry is FREE and there are prizes to be won. Just print, or draw up, your own bingo cards, using the regular format. Samples can be provided, or a regular card can be printed or copied from the internet. Please ensure that the numbers included on the card run from 1 to no more than 90 – many will run from 1 to 75. Coins, buttons or counters will be needed to cover the numbers for each game, so that the same cards can be used for all of the 10 games that we will be playing. You can choose to play with just 1 card or, if you have the expertise, the maximum of 6 cards per person!
Our ever popular SUPPER QUIZ will be held on Saturday 10th April at 7pm. Entry is FREE and you could win a prize! Play alone or as a team. All are welcome.
Please provide your contact details if we do not already have them, as two marathon rounds will be sent out in advance.

Harrow is Going Even Greener!
We’re pleased to pass on the great news that everyone in the London Borough of Harrow is being invited by Harrow Biodiversity and Environment group, working with Harrow Council, to find new ways to raise awareness of green issues, and to put them in to practice.
As well as inspiring others, and helping nature, your ideas and projects could win you a prize in one of the many categories. Harrow Council and a number of sponsors are getting together to provide the prizes and to offer inspiration. Workshops and published information will be available to help you get started.
The Go Green project offers entry into categories suitable for pre-school and school age children, as well as for local gardeners, businesses and, in fact, anyone who can offer helpful and inspiring ideas to improve the biodiversity in our area.
Whether you have a small area, such as a balcony, where you can grow plants and encourage insects to visit, or you have the benefit of a large garden that could offer water areas and nurture food sources and habitats for the benefit of wildlife, you can enter your project into one, or several, of the competition categories.
Could you and your child work together to build a shelter for wildlife, grow a small meadow area, or provide interesting feeding areas? Plans should be created by the child, but assistance can be given to create the features. Or perhaps you have ideas on how to create a garden area that is welcoming to fauna and flora alike? If you have business premises, whether offices, or within an industrial area, or you are involved in building new homes, can you show how committed you are to developing and creating biodiverse areas within those spaces?
Follow the link for further information on the entry categories and requirements.
